Reading good books is one of the best ways to learn about the world and to enrich your inner world, your conversations and your approach to life. Many people have goals for the number of books they want to read in the new year, or that they want to spend more time reading in general. However, not all books are worth reading; many books should be burned for warmth because they provide more value to humanity as kindling. How can we distinguish good books from bad ones? How can we then remember and apply what we read from these books to our lives? How exactly do good books enrich our lives beyond mere “social vanity”? This essay answers all of these questions.
