What is Classical Ideals?

Education is not merely the collection of facts and knowledge, but the development of character and the calibration of a good moral compass. People spend more time today in school than ever before, and have never been more poorly educated.

I myself began school at the age of two. I have a bachelors degree in Medical Science and Human Physiology, a Masters in Neuroscience from the University of Western Ontario in Canada, and I was a year into my PhD Neuroscience program when I was compelled to drop out for the high crime of critical thinking.

My name is Megha Lillywhite and this blog is an attempt to fix the problem of a rotten education system by helping people become better auto-didacts, as well as documenting my own auto-didactic journey.

I studied the sciences and especially neuroscience in University because I have always been intrigued by the human mind, but at some point I realized that the human mind is not a material organ between our ears, but rather a facet of the human soul. It is metaphysical. And the best place to learn about the human soul is not in an fMRI machine (a machine I worked with extensively in my research) but rather between the covers of great books and classic literature.

We are all responsible for our own education and the education of our children and this begins by reading and engaging with good books.

In Classical Ideals, I write about great books, I discuss their themes and ideas and discuss how we can not only apply them to our own lives, but be transformed by them. I discuss modern culture, art history, and philosophy. I spent most of my life in the hard sciences and now I direct that scrutiny and discipline to the humanities which have largely been taken over by leftists and communists. I am so glad I did not study the humanities at an institutional level, because it means I was insulated from the propaganda that has rotted the humanities for most people.

I left the feminist girl boss dream in my twenties, got married, found God and had two babies whom I wish to educate with good character, not just intellect and knowledge.

There exists a small but powerful community of people today who are taking back the humanities, its art, music, great books and ideas. Subscribe to my blog to join this community of people and stay up to date, read book reviews from someone who is not captured by the marxists running modern society, and be influenced in a good way on your own personal educational journey, either for yourself or for your children.

Gain the tools to educate your children, or to educate yourself.

Free subscribers get one free article per month, and paid subscribers get one article every single week about a great book, a great work of art, music or philosophical concept. Get your weekly dose of thoughtful long-form intellectual stimulation. Founding members will also have access to my book club which happens once per month, live and will be able to chat with me, and where I share the best quotes from the books, essays and lectures that I’ve been reading.

P.S. I also create hand-painted children’s books and I have collections of my essays available in books on amazon.
